What to expect when coming to worship at Trinity?
Though the worship service doesn’t begin until 8:30 am, people will often start arriving around 8 am to help prepare for the worship service or fellowship time after. If you walk in then you’ll probably be greeted at the door and then someone will hand you a bulletin near the sanctuary. Before the service begins you’ll find people quietly meditating in the sanctuary, while others are talking and greeting each other in the narthex.
The large bells above the sanctuary ring at 8:30 am – which marks the time for the worship service to begin. The sanctuary is wide with plenty of seating on cushioned pews. There is also extra pew seating available in the narthex. Age-appropriate children’s bulletins are available. (The usher will help give them out.) Near the main entrance to the sanctuary there are children’s activities bags with things like coloring pages and crayons. Trinity is a very kid-friendly church. In the middle of the worship service there is a Children’s Message, where all the children are invited forward and Pastor shares a short message with them.
The worship service itself follows along through the hymnal (the new maroon Lutheran Service Book). Large-print bulletins are available that print out off all the hymnal parts – which many of the older members and visitors find helpful. Organ music (or sometimes piano) normally accompanies the singing.
When the worship service concludes people are ushered out of the sanctuary. Many of them continue straight on to the large Fellowship Hall where there is a variety of snacks, cookies, bars, cheese and crackers, coffee, and juice. This is a time of fellowship for all ages – as there is a large Kids Corner filled with toys for the kids to enjoy.
After about 15-20 minutes of fellowship and snacks, large dividers are opened in the fellowship hall and the Sunday School begins with two different age groups. Three-year-olds thru 1st grade are in one class, 2nd graders thru 6th grade are in the other class. Sunday School meets during the school year – and then take a break during the summer months.
Shortly after Sunday School begins on Sunday mornings, Pastor begins leading an Adult Bible Class in the fellowship hall that covers the 3 lectionary readings of the day. Questions and comments are welcome and there’s normally a good discussion. This class lasts about an hour.
To summarize, what you’ll find on Sunday mornings is a good-natured group of people gathering to worship their Lord, receive His gifts in worship, and then learn more about His Word.
